This website is devoted to improving the quality of life for the residents of Esterones de Sámara, a small town in the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica. By preserving the natural resources and supporting the abundant biodiversity of the region, our community strives to live in harmony with nature and with each other.

Living with nature
In Spanish, Esterones means The Large Estuaries. Our town, previously know as “Las Brisas,” is situated adjacent to an estuary that serves as the connection between the Buena Vista River and the Pacific Ocean. In Esterones, abundant wildlife includes howler monkeys, the American crocodile, the Northern tamandua anteater, black spiny-tailed iguanas, ocelot, red-tailed squirrels, coatis, armadillos, and turtles. Rarely neighbors have reported scarlet macaws, jaguarundi, margay, puma, and even jaguars. There are thousands of insect species and hundreds of bird species in the area including the Turquoise-browed Motmot, the Black-headed Trogon, and the Costa Rican Pygmy Owl. Our community strives to maintain the habitat necessary to support this incredible diversity and high density of wild creatures.
